The SoutheastCon 2006 Hardware Contest has negotiated a good price on hand-held scanner which you may want
to use for the contest. We have tested one, and it appears to work reliably.
The PosX Xi1000 is a CCD-type handheld scanner. Specifications can be found at http://pos-x.com/images/Xi1000_spec.pdf. It has a MSRP of $129, but we got a price of $50 for the keyboard wedge model ($65 for the USB version) from POSGuys.com. This is by far the cheapest scanner we could find.
